| Comments: | Restriction digests of the clone give the following sizes (kb): EcoRI--2.8, 0.63; BamHI--uncut; consistent with deposited DNA. Transcription from the SP6 promoter yields sense RNA. JE is one of several (including KC, JB) competence genes which are induced with the addition of platelet-derived growth factor. Frequently used as a molecular marker for response to cellular growth factors. Has been used to identify the human homolog from WI-38 cells. Includes a single open reading frame that presumably encodes a protein of 148 aa, with a consensus sequence for N-glycosylation at aa 126. The 3 region contains an ATTTA sequence described for cytokines and mRNAs with rapid turnover. |
