| Storage Conditions: | liquid nitrogen vapor phase |
| Karyotype: | modal number = 44, XX; most cells were monosomic for chromosomes 10, 11, 13, 14 and 19; all cells were missing both copies of chromosome 2; five marker chromosomes of unknown origin were observed in each cell. One of the marker chromosomes contains a homogeneously staining region (HSR); no double minutes were seen |

| Derivation: | SK-N-DZ is a neuroblastoma cell line derived in 1978 from a bone marrow metastasis from a child with poorly differentiated embryonal neuroblastoma. |
| Clinical Data: | 2 years
Caucasian
female
|
| Tumorigenic: | Yes |
| Effects: | Yes, forms tumors in nude mice |
| Comments: | Expression of the N-myc gene product was reduced in differentiated SK-N-DZ cells as compared with undifferentiated cells.
Expression of the c-src gene product, pp60c-src was enhanced in differentiated SK-N-DZ cells as was tyrosine phosphorylation of cellular proteins. The cells exhibit moderate MDR1 expression. Retinoic acid induces differentiation in this line. |
| Complete Growth Medium: | The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated Dulbeccos Modified Eagles Medium, Catalog No. 30-2002.
To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium:
|
| Subculturing: | Volumes used in this protocol are for 75 cm2 flask; proportionally reduce or increase amount of dissociation medium for culture vessels of other sizes.
Subculture Ratio: 1:4 Medium Renewal: 2 to 3 times a week.
Note: For more information on enzymatic dissociation and subculturing of cell lines consult Chapter 10 in Culture of Animal Cells, a manual of Basic Technique by R. Ian Freshney, 3rd edition, published by Alan R. Liss, N.Y., 1994.
