| Derivation: | This is one of a series of breast tumor lines (TS211493 through 26) isolated from pleural effusions and characterized by R. Cailleau and associates in 1973. |
| Clinical Data: | 47 years adult Caucasian female |
| Antigen Expression: | Antigen expression: Blood Type O; Rh+ |
| Receptor Expression: | Receptor expression: fibroblast growth factor (FGF) |
| Comments: | The cells grow as a monolayer of round loosely adherent cells.
They grow slowly, becoming heavy (shedding somewhat into the medium) without actually becoming confluent.
The cells overexpress FGF receptors, and the fgfr-1 gene is amplified. |
| Complete Growth Medium: | The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated Leibovitzs L-15 Medium, Catalog No. 30-2008. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 20%. (Note: The L-15 medium formulation was devised for use in a free gas exchange with atmospheric air. A CO2 and air mixture is detrimental to cells when using this medium for cultivation) |
| Subculturing: | Remove medium, and rinse with 0.25% trypsin, 0.03% EDTA solution. Remove the solution and add an additional 1 to 2 mL of trypsin-EDTA solution. Allow the flask to sit at room temperature (or at 37°C) until the cells detach. Add fresh culture medium, aspirate and dispense into new culture flasks.xa0Corning® T-75 flasks (catalog #430641) are recommended for subculturing this product.
Subcultivation Ratio: A subcultivation ratio of 1:2 to 1:4 is recommended
