| Derivation: | The CPA 47 cell line was established from cells scraped from the luminal surface of the pulmonary artery. |
| Genes Expressed: | Tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox). factor VIII; angiotensin converting enzyme,Recent tests for bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) virus indicate that CPA 47 cells are positive for both BVD antigen and infectious virions when the culture medium contains serum of bovine origin. |
| Cellular Products: | factor VIII; angiotensin converting enzyme |
| Comments: | The cells have never been exposed to proteolytic enzymes, and therefore possess an intact glycocalyx. CPA 47 cells show cobblestone morphology, and are positive for factor VIII and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). The cells have a life expectancy of about 5 years (120 passages), and can be grown on microcarriers. Recent tests for bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) virus indicate that CPA 47 cells are positive for both BVD antigen and infectious virions when the culture medium contains serum of bovine origin. Current lots have been propagated using horse serum and all tests for BVD virus were negative. |
| Complete Growth Medium: | Hams F12K medium with 2 mM L-glutamine adjusted to contain 1.5 g/L sodium bicarbonate, 90%; horse serum, 10%
|
| Subculturing: | Subcultures are prepared by scraping. Remove old medium, add fresh, dislodge cells from the substrate, aspirate and dispense into new flasks new flasks. Subcultivation Ratio: A subcultivation ratio of 1:2 is recommended.

| Cryopreservation: | culture medium, 95%; DMSO, 5% |
| Culture Conditions: | Temperature: 37°C |
| Name of Depositor: | US Ryan |
| Deposited As: | Bos taurus |
| Passage History: | The cells have a life expectancy of about 5 years (120 passages) and can be grown on microcarriers. |
