| Age: | adult |
| Gender: | male |
| Applications: | The cells produce a extracellular matrix that can be used to support the growth of other cells including rat neuronal cells and astrocytes. |
| Storage Conditions: | liquid nitrogen vapor phase |
| Images: | |
| Derivation: | This line was established from explants of normal adult bovine corneas. |
| Genes Expressed: | extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins |
| Cellular Products: | extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins |
| Comments: | The reported population doubling time decreases with increasing passages from approximately 55 hours at passage 70 to 30 hours at passage 90. The cells will grow well (but at a slower rate) in medium containing decreased amounts of serum (5% bovine calf serum, 2.5% fetal bovine serum). |
| Complete Growth Medium: | The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated Dulbeccos Modified Eagles Medium, Catalog No. 30-2002. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%.
|
| Subculturing: | Remove medium, add fresh trypsin (0.25%) - EDTA (0.03%) solution, rinse and remove. Add fresh trypsin solution (1 to 2 mL) and allow flasks to remain at room temperature (or incubate at 37°C) until cells detach. Add fresh medium, aspirate and dispense into new culture flasks.
Subcultivation ratio: 1:2 to 1:4
Medium Renewal: 2 to 3 times per week

| Culture Conditions: | Temperature: 37°C |
| Name of Depositor: | AH Nicholas, C Bethea |
| Deposited As: | Bos taurus |
| Passage History: | The reported population doubling time decreases with increasing passages from approximately 55 hours at passage 70 to 30 hours at passage 90. |
